Friday Workout

I woke up motivated and ready to workout today. I’m still weak from a horrible bout of bronchitis I’m still recovering from and sore from yesterday’s workout so, I took it easy on the cardio and did a slow two mile jog. Considering I’m out of breath and still coughing up phlegm the run went pretty well after the initial first few minutes. Post run I had a fresh green juice.

Post Run Green Juice

  • 3 stalks celery
  • 1 apple
  • 1/2 lemon (unpeeled if organic)
  • 3 large handfuls dandelion greens
  • 1 large handful cilantro
  • 1 cucumber (unpeeled if organic)

Morning Turmeric Juice

This morning I started the day with my probiotic pills, I’ve decided to nix the warm lemon water in the a.m. It’s just way too hard on my teeth enamel and causes tooth sensitivity. I’m also sure it’s the culprit behind my very first cavity a year ago so healthy or not, I’m letting it go. I also had tangy turmeric juice which gave me a big energy boost followed by my usual organic coffee. I’ll be making this juice for breakfast more often.

Turmeric Juice

  • 3 stalks celery
  • 3 medium carrots
  • 2 oranges
  • 2 apples
  • 1 thumb sized ginger
  • 2 thumb sized turmeric

Today’s lunch was leftover romaine salad with turmeric dressing from yesterday. I caved in and overate some yummy curry chicken and brown rice last night so I’m trying to keep it pretty simple and all raw vegan today. We’ll see how that goes.

Thursday Workout

Thursday I did Tony Horton’s 30 minute P90X leg workout on Beach Body On Demand. It was my first day back from a long exercise hiatus. Since It’s been so long I didn’t feel all that motivated to do it because working out is no longer a habit for me. I also procrastinated for a couple of hours which made it worse. Its’ so much better when I just get up and do it immediately.  Lack of motivation aside, I felt amazing afterwards. My glutes and thighs were already sore this morning and I slept great last night.

Beach Body On Demand

Along with my healthy eating lifestyle my usual fitness routine went down the drain over the past year due to a crazy schedule. I LOVE fitness and miss it so much. It helps me sleep better, keeps me strong, reduces stress, keeps me toned and makes me feel like an athlete even if it’s just in my head. I’m not a fan of crowded stuffy gyms and don’t like the extra time it takes to commute to a gym. My favorite workout is running outdoors. I also enjoy yoga, especially hot yoga and strength training circuit workouts like P90x.

Thankfully I now have the time to start back again and I just signed up for Beach Body on demand so I can stream their workouts on roku. I’ve used this subscription in the past and loved it. The subscription is  $38 every 3 months which is $12 a month. Pretty standard for a monthly streaming subscription and I think it’s totally worth it. You can sign up for a free 30 day trial here.

I’ve decided to work out every day after my morning meditation rotating between jogging, yoga and streaming circuit workouts like P90x. I’ve noticed most people around me are always waiting for something to happen or change before they can begin a workout regime and I’ve also noticed that people with this mind-set never workout or if they do it’s never for long. Something that always worked for me is I never wait until I feel like working out to workout. I completely ignore my thoughts about it and when it’s time to go do it, I just go do it. After the initial mind training hump it becomes a habit and I don’t have to psyche myself into doing it anymore. Unless I literally don’t have the time or I’m sick, there is nothing my mind can tell me that will cause me to postpone or not do it.

I also make sure my workouts are something I personally enjoy; you’ll never catch me in a Pilates or cycle class. Today is Day 1 of my new consistent workout regime and I’ll be blogging my daily workouts going forward.

Lunch Romaine Heart Salad with Turmeric Dressing

I started my day with warm lemon water, probiotic pills and organic coffee. At about 10:30am I finished off yesterday’s kale chickpea salad topped with avocado and nutritional yeast. It tasted even better today because it marinated overnight in the dressing.

Today’s lunch was a salad of romaine hearts, red pepper, white onion, cucumber and shredded turmeric and carrots. I used Raw on $10 a Day’s Turmeric Dressing recipe here. The dressing has a Thai twist and tasted really good. I swapped the dried turmeric for 2 tbsp of fresh turmeric and added a little water to help it blend well.

Fresh turmeric is another daily staple for me because it completely cures my once out of control cystic acne. I’m not sure why, but I’m assuming it has something to do with it’s strong anti-inflammatory properties. Since I discovered this I haven’t had to take any rounds of antibiotics which never worked 100% anyway. Turmeric is an amazing food with tons of benefits. More about turmeric’s benefits here. I usually juice it or grate over salads. Black pepper increases the bioavailability of turmeric so I’ll add it when having turmeric in a dressing or meal.

The twin’s also had my lunch salad as an afternoon snack with chickpeas, sliced oranges and probiotic rich sauerkraut.

Raw or nearly raw sauerkraut is a natural source of probiotics. We usually have it in raw wraps, with salad or as a snack with sliced avocado and nutritional yeast. Sprouts Market was out of my usual Bubbies so I gave this organic one by Farmhosue Culture a try in the Garlic Dill Pickle flavor which is delicious. The twin’s loved it too, especially the pickles. Probiotics help re-balance good gut bacteria and helps improve overall digestion.

Lunch Avocado Toast

Today I started my morning with a cup of warm water and lemon followed by organic coffee with vegan coconut creamer. I don’t usually eat breakfast, but I woke up with the munchies so I also had 2 bags of raw kale chips. It’s not a traditional breakfast, but when it comes to raw  foodsI’m not particularly concerned with what time of the day I have them because they’re so pure and energizing.

I made avocado toast on gluten free bread topped with red peppers and sprouts for lunch. Avocados are one of my favorite foods and I have at least one almost every day, as far as I’m concerned it makes everything taste better. Sometimes I just top a piece of toast with a few slices of avocado and add drizzle of lemon and sea salt. However, today I made the following avocado medley:

  • 1 Large Avocado
  • 1/4 cup chopped cucumber
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1 handful chopped fresh cilantro and/or parsley
  • 1 tbsp fresh oregano
  • 1 tbsp chopped onion
  • 1 clove chopped garlic
  • 1 tbsp each of fresh chopped ginger & turmeric
  • squeeze of 1/2 half lemon
  • Drizzle with olive oil and a sprinkle of crushed red chili peppers, black pepper, dried cumin and Himalayan pink salt to taste.

I mixed everything together and scooped it on top of 2 toasted slices of Food for Life’s gluten free bread topped with sliced red peppers and sprouts.  I make so many variations of this medley by just adding whatever I happen to have on hand. This mixture also tastes great wrapped in nori sheets, collard or romaine lettuce leaves.
